Starter Templates in Brilliant Assessments give you a pre-designed starting point for building professional assessment feedback reports. Each editable Word template includes a ready-made layout, styling, and sample merge strings that you can adapt with your own branding, charts, scores, feedback, and assessment content.
Building an assessment and building the feedback report that comes out of it are two very different jobs. One is about structure, scoring, and logic. The other is about presentation: how the results are laid out, how the feedback comes across, how the charts sit on the page, and whether you’d be happy sending the final report to a client, manager, or respondent.
Building the report is often where time can add up. That’s because the report has to do several things at once: look professional, fit your brand, make room for charts and rating text, and work with your assessment's structure and content. Starting from a blank Word document is possible, of course, but it’s rarely the fastest route.
Starter Templates are pre-designed Word feedback report templates in Brilliant Assessments. They give you a ready-made report design, complete with layout, styling, and sample merge strings, which you can then adapt to fit your own assessment. In essence, they save you from starting with a blank page. You choose a report design that feels right for you, then change what needs changing. That might mean swapping fonts, replacing images, updating colors, editing merge strings, or changing parts of the layout.
The time-saving is not just in the design
These templates are useful not only because they look good, but also because a lot of behind-the-scenes work has already been thought through. The layouts are built to handle charts and merge strings properly, and many elements sit inside tables so the formatting stays in place as content changes. Rating images and colors match the template's style. In some cases, stock images are already sized to fit the design, saving you the usual cycle of dropping an image into Word, resizing it, and still not being quite happy with it.
Each template library also comes in different formats, including A4, US Letter, and landscape versions, which helps if you are working across regions or know the final report needs to suit a particular use case.
Built to be adapted
The templates are designed to work best when an assessment has a reasonable amount of structure already in place. In general, they suit assessments with multiple sections, at least a few subsections, and respondent name fields mapped into the system. That gives the template enough to work with when it starts pulling results into the report.
But they are not all-or-nothing. You can remove the elements you don’t need, swap in different merge strings, and edit the report to fit your ideas. In practice, that is still far easier than building the whole thing yourself from the ground up.
Different looks, same idea
The Starter Templates cover a range of styles, from minimal to more colorful, corporate, and design-led options. Each one comes with its own ready-made visual style, including color palettes, rating colors, and font choices that already work well together.

A head start is often all you need
There is a particular kind of project delay that happens when the content is ready, but the report is not. The scoring works, the charts are there, the feedback is written, and yet nothing is ready to send because the report still looks half-built.
Starter Templates don’t remove the need to plan and think. You still need to tailor the report to your assessment, test your merge strings, and make design choices that fit your audience. But they do remove a lot of the slow, repetitive setup work that gets in the way.
For most people building feedback reports, that is the real value: a faster route to something that looks professional, works properly, and feels like it belongs to the assessment it came from.
