Self-service freedom or vendor dependency?
Pointerpro is a platform with strong questionnaire, quiz, and personalized reporting capabilities. For organizations looking to run more sophisticated assessment programs, Pointerpro Plus is the closest comparison with Brilliant Assessments, but the two platforms take quite different approaches.
Pointerpro Plus combines advanced assessment and reporting functionality with a more vendor-led setup, while Brilliant Assessments was designed to give assessment teams more direct control. In this article, we explore some of the main differences between the two platforms to help you decide which approach is the better fit for your assessment program.
Vendor-led setup
Self-service control
The Brilliant Assessments difference
Four fundamental differencesSelf-service from day one
Build and maintain your own advanced assessments, with professional services available when they are useful rather than required.
Assessment logic built into the platform
Configure scoring, rating bands, feedback, benchmarks, comparisons, and reports without recreating routine assessment functionality through a network of custom formulas.
Straightforward, inclusive pricing
Reports, users, assessment managers, group reporting, Partner Portals, and native AI are included instead of being assembled from separate allowances and add-ons.
A lower-risk route to market
Start monthly while you develop the assessment and prove demand, then move to an annual subscription when it makes commercial sense.
Build it yourself. Change it yourself. Keep moving.
An assessment rarely stays exactly as it was on launch day. Questions change, scoring models develop, feedback improves, and new audiences need different reports and results.
Self-service from day one
-
Start building immediately
Use the full base platform yourself from the beginning, with real customer success support available throughout.
-
Use AI Build to accelerate the work
Generate and refine the assessment structure while retaining editorial control over the methodology and finished content.
-
Bring in our team when it helps
Use professional services for all or part of the project without making the long-term maintenance of your assessment dependent on us.
Vendor-built first project
-
The first advanced project is built for you
Pointerpro builds the questionnaire, scoring, logic, and report before handing the project over.
-
Implementation is part of the Plus setup
The larger project researched was estimated at approximately €1,300–€1,500, with the final price dependent on scope.
-
You take over the advanced configuration after handover
Your team can make future changes itself, provided it is comfortable maintaining the formulas, logic, and report structure created during implementation.

Brilliant Assessments gives your team control from the beginning. You can build the assessment, configure its scoring and feedback, create reports and Results dashboards, test the experience, and manage future changes yourself. AI Build can help draft the structure, questions, answers, ratings, and feedback, while your customer success manager is available when you need guidance.
Professional services are optional. Our team can build the assessment, feedback, reports, and results experience for you, with services starting from $1,000 depending on scope. Once the assessment is handed over, your team can continue to maintain and develop it in the same platform.
Pointerpro takes a different approach with Plus. Its published pricing information says that Plus projects involving formulas, aggregate reports, or a Distribution Portal take longer to set up, and that Pointerpro will build the customer’s first project while they learn the tool. During our research, Pointerpro also confirmed that this initial implementation is compulsory for new Plus customers.
The implementation discussed with us was expected to take around six weeks, potentially extending to eight weeks around holiday periods. Once complete, the assessment would be handed over with training, but future changes would then need to be made by the customer in the advanced interface or commissioned as further services.
That leaves an important question for buyers: if an advanced assessment is difficult enough to require a vendor-built first project, how confidently will your team be able to understand, maintain, test, and expand it after handover?
Your assessment should not be held together by custom formulas
Formulas have a legitimate role in assessment design. They are useful when a methodology requires a genuinely bespoke calculation. They should not have to recreate functionality that the platform could manage directly.
Assessment logic built in
-
Configure feedback around your methodology
Define ratings, score bands, recommendations, and report content through the structure of the assessment.
-
Reduce the amount of logic you need to test
Routine scoring and feedback behavior is handled by the platform rather than reconstructed through separate formulas and report rules.
-
Keep formulas for genuinely bespoke calculations
Use advanced calculations where they add value instead of making them the foundation of every feedback pathway.
More formula-driven
-
Advanced calculations are formula-driven
Formulas can calculate scores, averages, filtered benchmarks, and other variables used across outcomes and reports.
-
Conditional content is configured at widget level
Different report blocks are shown or hidden through rules based on scores, answers, formulas, outcomes, and other variables.
-
Your team inherits the configuration
After implementation, future changes may require the customer to understand and safely amend the formulas and conditional logic built into the project.

Pointerpro supports outcomes and custom scoring, so formulas are not required for every simple assessment. For more sophisticated Plus projects, however, formulas are used for advanced calculations, averages, filtered benchmarks, and variables that feed into the report. Conditional feedback is then controlled through rules applied to individual report widgets.
In the Plus workflow demonstrated to us, score-based recommendations were created as prewritten content blocks and displayed or hidden according to formulas and score thresholds. Pointerpro’s documentation also instructs customers to create new responses to test that each conditional rule produces the correct content. Pointerpro Help
Every additional formula and conditional pathway becomes something else to understand, document, test, and revisit when the assessment changes. An error may be difficult to detect because the assessment and report can still run while producing the wrong result for a particular combination of answers or scores.
Brilliant Assessments builds common assessment mechanics directly into the software. Rating bands, scoring, personalized feedback, benchmarks, comparisons, cohort analysis, iterations, individual reports, and 360 reporting are all configured through dedicated platform features. Formulas remain available for the parts of your methodology that genuinely need them. Brilliant Assessments
Know what your assessment will cost before you launch
Pointerpro Plus is the relevant comparison for sophisticated assessments requiring advanced formulas, customized PDF reports, aggregate reporting, longitudinal analysis, or delegated client distribution. Brilliant Assessments takes a more inclusive approach, with unlimited reports and users, Partner Portals, group reporting, native AI, and over 95% of platform capabilities included from Starter.
Starter
Professional implementation is optional, from $1,000 USD.
Plus
First year with researched implementation: approximately €9,800–€10,000 / $10,780–$11,000 USD.
The recurring Brilliant Assessments subscription comes in around $5,400 USD lower per year.
A response allowance is not the same as a feedback allowance
Pointerpro Plus allows up to 10,000 responses per month, but includes only 50 PDF report downloads per year. For an assessment where each respondent needs personalized feedback, reporting capacity can become the real constraint. Brilliant Assessments includes unlimited report templates, generation, and delivery.
Unlimited users really means unlimited users
Brilliant Assessments does not charge by seat. Add administrators, assessment managers, contributors, and other users according to how your program operates. Pointerpro includes one user across its published plans, with additional administrators available as paid add-ons.

Pointerpro offers Lite, Core, and Plus subscriptions. Lite is priced from €999 per year / approximately $1,100 USD, or €99 per month / approximately $109 USD, but it does not include personalized reports. Core starts at €2,499 per year / approximately $2,750 USD and adds personalized HTML feedback, although formulas and the additional question types needed for more sophisticated assessments remain paid add-ons.
Plus is therefore the relevant comparison for organizations that need advanced formulas, customized PDF reports, aggregate reporting, 360 or longitudinal analysis, and delegated client distribution. It starts at €4,499 per year / approximately $4,950 USD, is billed annually, includes one user, and provides 50 PDF report downloads per year.
Aggregate Reports, DashboardBuilder, SSO, extra administrators, and several other capabilities are listed as paid additions. Pointerpro’s Plus summary also describes Aggregate Reports, the Distribution Portal, and 360 or longitudinal reports as add-ons.
Brilliant Assessments takes a more inclusive approach. The Starter subscription is $3,990 USD per year and includes 1,200 completed responses, unlimited users, Partner Portals, AI features, advanced feedback, group reporting, longitudinal tracking, white labeling, and over 95% of platform capabilities. Pricing primarily scales according to completed response volume rather than the number of reports, users, or assessment managers you need.
Full scenario comparison

| Users and assessment managers | Unlimited | One user included; extra administrators are paid add-ons |
| Initial implementation | Optional, from $1,000 USD | Approximately €1,300–€1,500 / ~$1,430–$1,650 USD |
| Recurring annual total | $3,990 USD | €8,499 / ~$9,350 USD |
| First year with implementation | From $4,990 USD if selected | Approximately €9,800–€10,000 / ~$10,780–$11,000 USD |
The Pointerpro add-on prices were provided during our October 2026 sales research in euros: €500 for Aggregate Reports, €1,000 to increase the report allowance to 1,000, and €2,500 for a Distribution Portal with ten logins.
Approximate USD equivalents for Pointerpro prices quoted in euros use €1 = $1.10 for comparison purposes. Actual costs may vary with exchange rates, taxes, payment processing, and commercial terms agreed directly with Pointerpro.
One further consideration: the 1,000-report package would still fall 50 reports short of the 1,050 individual and group reports required in this example if every report were downloaded.
About unlimited users
Brilliant Assessments does not charge by seat. You can invite as many administrators, assessment managers, contributors, and other users as your program requires. The “supported admin or manager” number shown against each plan determines how many people can book one-to-one customer success sessions; it is not a software user limit.
For an enterprise assessment involving methodology owners, program managers, administrators, assessors, client contacts, and partner organizations, this can affect both cost and how widely responsibility for the program can be shared.
