About The Icehouse
The Icehouse helps New Zealand entrepreneurs and business owners understand their businesses more clearly and build the capability they need to grow.
A key part of that is helping owners understand how their business is performing. The Icehouse partnered with Brilliant Assessments to deliver its BIQ™ self-assessment, giving business owners a structured way to assess six key areas of performance and identify where they may need to improve.
“One of the things we do at The Icehouse that’s really important is help our owners understand how they’re performing in their business.”
– Andrew Hamilton, CEO, The Icehouse
Individual insight and a wider view of performance
Each business owner completes the BIQ™ self-assessment and receives a tailored report showing where their business is performing well and where there may be opportunities to improve. At the same time, The Icehouse can bring results together to compare performance across its customer base.
Over time, that aggregated data is becoming increasingly valuable. The Icehouse can look at patterns across higher- and lower-performing businesses, explore what may be influencing performance, and build a richer picture as more businesses complete the assessment.
“We are learning a lot… around how to influence the performance of businesses. It’s by looking back and seeing how high performers have gone and how low performers have gone, and then digging into that data even more.”
– Andrew Hamilton, CEO, The Icehouse
Better insight for owners and The Icehouse

A view across the customer base
The Icehouse can aggregate assessment results across its customers, making it possible to compare relative performance and identify wider patterns.
Learning from performance over time
As more businesses complete the assessment, The Icehouse can explore the differences between higher- and lower-performing businesses and build a richer body of performance data.
Easy to adapt and develop
When The Icehouse wants to change, add, or refine something in the assessment, the Brilliant Assessments team can advise on the best way to do it and support the program as it develops.
“One of the things we’re really excited about when we look ahead to the future is having a partner that understands our business and can travel with us as we improve that database of information in the BIQ.”

Andrew Hamilton, CEO, The Icehouse
Hi, I’m Andy from The Icehouse. The Icehouse was created to help New Zealand entrepreneurs and business owners fulfill their potential and successfully grow their businesses.
One of the things we do at The Icehouse that’s really important is help our owners understand how they’re performing in their business. So we partnered with Brilliant Assessments to create a self-assessment tool based on traffic lights around six key enablers that will determine whether or not they’re successful.
Forty-eight questions, it’s done in about 15 minutes, and it’s an awesome tool to help owners check what they need to improve and then go and act.
Not only do the owners get a tailored report for their own situation that they can improve, but we as The Icehouse get an aggregated report where we can compare the relative performance of our customers. That’s a really interesting thing over time for us and also for the business owners.
I think that with the BIQ and Brilliant Assessments, we are learning a lot over the last three years that we’ve adopted the platform, just around how to influence the performance of businesses. It’s by looking back and seeing how high performers have gone and how low performers have gone, and then digging into that data even more.
I think we’re three years into something that feels pretty interesting. When we look at it over the next seven years, the richness of the data that the Brilliant Assessments database provides, and the IP they’ve put into the self-assessment platform, just makes it easy.
I think they don’t overcomplicate things. When we’ve gone to them and said we want to do a tweak, we want to change something, or we want to add something, they advise us back, and I think it just works really well. It’s an easy relationship because I think they’re really experienced.
One of the things we’re really excited about when we look ahead to the future is having a partner that understands our business and can travel with us as we improve that database of information in the BIQ. That’s pretty exciting.
